DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH
The Department of English, since its inception in 2015, has made an impressive journey in catering to the needs and aspirations of the budding students. As an important unit of humanities discipline, the department functions with an intake capacity of 8 students in an academic year leading up to a strength of 24 students in graduate programme. The academic and non-academic activities of the department are handled by a team of 2 highly skilled faculty members who very sincerely work to impart not only knowledge and skill but also aesthetic sensibility in the students. The department has a Language Lab to hone the students’ communication skill. The seminar library of the department also benefits the students. Department of English organizes departmental seminars from time to time to upgrade students’ knowledge, skill and critical sensibility. Our students are bringing laurels to the department by performing remarkably well in university examinations. A student of our department, Miss Sweta Rath (14D0116003), secured a first-class-first position in English Honours in university examination in 2019 and was declared as university topper. The department aspires to set a tradition of excellence through its teaching-learning, research and alumni network.
Profile of the Faculty
Dr. Jajati Keshari Pradhan has 9 years of teaching experience. He has also 04 years of TA (Teaching Assistant) experience at IIT Kharagpur. He completed his PhD from Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, IIT Kharagpur in 2019. The title of his thesis is ‘Writing/Righting Lives: Testimonial Life Writing, South Asian Subaltern Woman, and Making of the “Human” Subject’. He has published research papers and reviews in some leading international journals such as Trans-Humanities (University of Hawai'i Press) and Prose Studies: History, Theory, Criticism, Life Writing, Journal of Postcolonial Writing (all Taylor and Francis/Routledge journals). He has presented research papers in international conferences at University of Potsdam, Germany, and at University of Oldenburg, Germany and in the Inaugural IABA Asia-Pacific Conference at Flinders University, Australia with international Travel Fellowship. Dr. Pradhan has also completed two online certificate courses: ER22X: JUSTICE by Harvard University and 2.01X: Ideas of the 20th Century by University of Texas System through online platform edX. He has research interest in life writing studies, postcolonial studies, critical posthumanism and new materialism. Dr. Pradhan is a member of many learned Professional/Academic Societies such as International Auto/Biographical Association (IABA), IABA Europe and IABA Asia-Pacific Chapter, and IABA Student and New Scholar Network (IABA SNS).
Anita Misra has completed her MA and MPhil from Hyderabad Central University. She has been teaching since her joining in Odisha Education Service in 2011. She has 11 years of teaching experience. She has published 1 research article in Ravenshaw Journal of Literary and Cultural Studies. She has attended 8 Seminars/Webinars and 1 orientation programme. She is specialized in Children’s Literature and Shakespeare (adaptations of Shakespeare for children).
